Advocacy
For years, FAWE has built public awareness and consensus
on the social and economic advantages of Girls' Education
through advocacy.
The importance of girls' education is now inescapable and
high on the agenda of all. Although not alone, FAWE greatly
has contributed to it. The approach takes a variety of paths
ranking from multimedia to interpersonal channels.
Now that there is a broad agreement that education for all
girls is imperative, the challenge is delivering the educational
goods in social economic and cultural context that are often
different and far from favorable.
Advocacy is necessary, but its nature has changed. From advocating
that we must educate all the girls and why this important,
it is now necessary to advocate how to do it.
FAWE understands that the culture - bound constraints to
girls' education still abound especially among rural and poor
populations. These include early marriage, excessive domestic
chores, sexual harassment, and low value placed on educating
girls' child.
As such FAWE's work in advocacy for girls' education must
continue to target communities where these constraints are
more important.
And, FAWE's efforts to promote girls' education cannot be
taken in isolation. It calls for constant attention to the
need for strategic partnerships and alliances at the global,
regional, and national and community level.
