FAWE and singer Angelique Kidjo launch Friends of FAWE USA

FAWE Executive Director Oley Dibba-Wadda and singer Angelique KidjoFAWE Executive Director Oley Dibba-Wadda and singer Angelique KidjoFAWE partnered with Benin singer Angelique Kidjo to unveil its new US-based affiliate, Friends of FAWE (FoF), in New York, USA, on 14 June 2011. Friends of FAWE’s objective is to raise  awareness, establish partnerships and raise funds in the US to support FAWE’s work of educating girls and women across sub-Saharan Africa and transforming their lives.

FAWE Executive Director Ms Oley Dibba-Wadda and former FAWE Chairperson and co-founder Hon. Simone de Comarmond announced the creation of FoF at a launch event at the United Nations headquarters in the presence of Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Angelique Kidjo. Benin-born Ms. Kidjo is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and the founder of the Batonga Foundation which supports secondary and tertiary education for girls in Africa.

Ms Dibba-Wadda described FoF as “the voice of FAWE in the US, carrying the message of the hopes…and gratitude of millions of African girls and women.”
