FAWE contributes to ADEA Youth Forum on strategies to enhance education

Monday, 24 October 2011

FAWE delegation at ADEA Youth ForumFAWE delegation at ADEA Youth ForumFAWE was one of the partners called upon by the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) to help coordinate its Youth Consultation Forum organised in Rabat, Morocco from 19 to 21 October 2011.

The meeting aimed to give African youth a forum to evaluate existing education and training systems and the impact on their employability and careers, and to express their views on how existing education systems can be reformed to respond to their professional needs as well as to enhance Africa’s sustainable economic development. The forum brought together African youth as well as representatives from African Ministries of Education and Youth, non-governmental organisations, the private sector and the Diaspora.

ADEA requested FAWE’s support in conducting a survey of African youth across its 33-country network prior to the forum to gather their perspectives on governmental policies on employment, education, vocational training and technology transfer. The survey gathered input from youths educated through the formal education system and those who have not received a formal education and formed the basis of deliberations held during the forum.

The youth’s contributions on education and training reforms in Africa will be combined to produce a “Declaration of Young Africans” that will be presented at the ADEA Triennial scheduled to take place in Ougadougou, Burkina Faso, from 12 to 17 February 2012. A working paper based on the deliberations at the forum is intended to promote further dialogue among African youth.
