The Forum for African Women Educationalists will host its 7th General Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya, from 30 to 31 July. The theme of the General Assembly is ‘Advancing girls’ education: scaling up FAWE’s successful models’, and the presentation of FAWE’s 2008-2012 Strategic Plan will highlight how the organisation aims to leverage its strengths to achieve the replication and mainstreaming of its successful models for girls’ education in education systems across Sub Saharan Africa.
Among the reports and papers to be presented will be a report from the Executive Director on the results and impact of FAWE’s work during the three-year period since the last General Assembly; reports from two sub-regional meetings of FAWE National Chapters on the outcome of their work and strategies for future action; and three thematic papers on the status of girls’ education in Sub Saharan Africa, mainstreaming gender into education policies and practices, and girls’ education in conflict and post-conflict situations. The agenda also includes a girls’ forum as well as an exhibition on FAWE countries.
The General Assembly coincides with FAWE’s 15-year anniversary and events including a celebration dinner, an advocacy walk through Nairobi and a video screening will mark the occasion.
