FAWE National Chapters lay the groundwork for 7th General Assembly

Monday, 2 June 2008

FAWE’s 35 National Chapters will participate in sub-regional assemblies as part of their preparation for the 7th FAWE General Assembly to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 30 to 31 July.

Two simultaneous sub-regional assemblies will be held from 3 to 6 June – one in Rwanda attended by National Chapters of Anglophone countries, the other in Mali targeting FAWE’s Francophone Chapters.

The National Chapters will examine the results and impact of their work in implementing FAWE’s gender-responsive models in the three years since the last FAWE General Assembly, as well as strategies for the future.

Each National Chapter will present an implementation report on the models undertaken by country, with particular focus on the Gender-Responsive School–Centre of Excellence model, the Tuseme [Let Us Speak Out] youth empowerment model, the Gender-Responsive Pedagogy model, and the Science, Mathematics and Technology programme. In addition, a number of National Chapters will share their experiences and perspectives related to the economic empowerment of girls in conflict and post-conflict situations.

The experiences, achievements, challenges and strategies discussed will form the basis of the sub-regional reports to be presented during the General Assembly by nominated representatives from the two sub-regions.

During the sub-regional sessions, names of full FAWE members will be proposed for nomination to the FAWE Executive Committee. Executive Committee elections will take place immediately prior to the General Assembly in Nairobi.
