FAWE named among Top 100 NGOs by The Global Journal for second year running

Friday, 25 January 2013

globaljournal_logoFAWE has been named among the world’s Top 100 NGOs by The Global Journal for the second year running.

FAWE ranked 70th out of the 100 NGOs selected for 2013, and is among 15 NGOs operating in the education sub-sector. The sub-sector sector ranked third best in this year’s selection, behind development and health.

The 100 top NGOs were selected from a long list of 450 organisations and rated on three key criteria: impact, innovation and sustainability. The Global Journal argues that this ranking, the only one of its kind worldwide, reflects the increasing global influence of NGOs in all facets of modern life.

FAWE Executive Director Oley Dibba-Wadda said, ‘We are greatly encouraged by the recognition of our work to empower African girls and women as a means of contributing to Africa’s long-term development.’

She added, ‘We are hopeful this recognition will give greater impetus to action in favour of the empowerment of girls and women the world over. We also hope it will bring greater visibility and support to the work of NGOs such as FAWE and others both within and beyond the Top 100 list.’

FAWE has advocated for quality education for African girls and women for the past 20 year as means of accelerating development objectives and contributing to the sustainable growth of African nations. The ogarnisation ranked 49th out of the Top 100 NGOs in 2012.

Ms Dibba-Wadda concluded by saying, ‘As ever, our hope and our objective is that the girls and women on whose behalf we work will acquire the knowledge, skills and opportunities to transform their lives and make significant contributions to their societies.’

The Global Journal is an analytical publication based in Geneva, Switzerland, and New York, USA. The journal focuses on global issues and discourses and targets an international community of decision-makers.
